2021 Cri de Coeur Pinot Noir

A switch to sustainable viticultural practices, top grafting with new clones and a change to cane pruning methods have been integral in the development of our winemaking over the last two decades. In 2012 the decision was made to introduce a super premium ranges of wines....The Cri de Coeur (Cry of the Heart) label is made in tiny quantities and perfectly showcases the pinnacle of our viticultural and winemaking efforts spanning over 40 years and two generations.

Tasting notes: The 2021 Cri de Coeur Pinot Noir has a spicy fragrant nose with vibrant fruit attributable to whole bunch fermentation. It has fine, textured tannins on the palate.

Drink with: Beef Bourguignon or rare roast beef.

Cellaring: Although drinking beautifully now, this wine will reward with substantial cellaring, perhaps even 15 years and beyond.

No animal products were used in the making of this wine.

The Wine Pilot
This wine has been made at Crittenden for as long as I have been on this earth and it displays its earthy wisdom far far better than I do. Clonal separation, micro-fermentation and whole cluster vary between 20%-70% depending on the batch. 11 months maturation in new and seasoned oak barriques before the wine slumbers for 18 months in bottle. That resting time results in a potpourri of delicate rose buds, violets and angelica. Ripe hawthorn, redcurrants and rambutans. A forest floor of autumn leaves and nutmeg. The palate has a succulence with ripe stalky tannins, the pureness of red berries shining through with each sip. The caress of careful winemaking, vine age and clonal diversity means this wine is drinking superbly now and will cellar like a dream upwards of 8-10 years. Drink with Quail and roasted root vegetables.

Halliday Wine Companion 2024
A vibrant garnet. Fragrant with florals and autumn leaves after rain with flavours of morello and sweet cherries, tamarind and turmeric, pepper and aniseed melding into the medium-bodied palate. The raw silk tannins have some sway and are just coming into unison, with the acidity allowing a lingering finish.

The Real Review
Light-ish but bright, clear, red-purple colour with a superbly detailed bouquet of strawberry, red cherry, assorted wild herbs and spices, with a smoky charcuterie like patina; the palate medium bodied and finely structured with soft, silky tannins and succulence. Rather strong on whole-bunch character, but has lovely balance and ready drinkability.

The Wine Front
Fragrant, well-balanced Pinot Noir offering energetic red cherry/strawberry flavours with attractive floral lifts. There’s a touch more weight on this release than has become customary for this label but even so it’s generally slender and elegant. It’s good now but into the medium term it will age well.
